As part of this strategy, new facilities will be created at the UAZ industrial site for the production of body-on-frame commercial vehicles.
The first project entails organising the production of Sollers Argo compact light-duty trucks in the city of Ulyanovsk. The assembly of this model has already been started in a new building at the UAZ industrial site under a separate legal entity - SOLLERS Cargo LLC. Construction and installation works to initiate full cycle production, including welding, cab painting and assembly of Sollers Argo trucks, are currently nearing completion at the UAZ industrial park.
The production capacity for this model is projected at over 10,000 vehicles per year over a five-year period. The total investment in the project will be over 1 billion rubles.
“The development of the industrial site in Ulyanovsk remains one of the SOLLERS group’s strategic priorities and, taking into account the basic competencies of UAZ in the production of body-on-frame vehicles, we decided to create new facilities within the UAZ industrial park to produce body-on-frame commercial vehicles, while using the existing infrastructure of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant,” SOLLERS PJSC BoD Chairman Adil Shirinov said. According to Adil Shirinov, the launch of Sollers Argo production in Ulyanovsk will also allow the company to take advantage of existing synergies with UAZ in terms of localising the manufacture of key units and modules. “I am sure that the strategy, which is currently being implemented, will help stimulate production growth at the UAZ industrial site, creation of new jobs and industrial development in the Ulyanovsk region, especially since the launch of Sollers Argo will be followed by intensive development of new projects for the UAZ industrial park,” Adil Shirinov remarked.
Sollers Argo is a compact vehicle for urban transportation, based on global technology and quality standards. The vehicle has a number of modifications for various cargo delivery tasks. With GVW of 2.5 tonnes, load capacity of less than 1 tonne, and environmentally friendly Euro 5 engine, the vehicle may enter central areas of large cities. The Argo’s excellent manoeuvrability and very small turning radius allow it to deliver goods to areas with the most restrictive urban conditions.
The vehicle is equipped with an economical and reliable 2.0 litre diesel engine, which produces 130 hp at 3,600 rpm, and torque of 285 Nm at 2,200-2,600 rpm. The Argo is equipped with all necessary active and passive safety systems, including driver and passenger airbags, ABS, ASR, ESP, etc.
